From our bases in the Mediterranean GM Oil & Gas Services provides a comprehensive range of services for the inspection, repair, upgrade and refurbishment of drilling rigs, support vessels and other marine assets. Our professional approach includes the alignment of the project management to the client’s desire to getting the work done safely, to the highest standards and on time.

GM Oil & Gas has installed over 5,000 km of subsea pipeline worldwide using S-lay technology, with diameters ranging from 2” to 48”. S-lay is characterised by its fast installation process and its application in all water depths. The “S” refers to the shape the pipe forms between the vessel and the seabed as it is laid. In the S-lay method, single lengths of steel pipe (joints) are welded, inspected and coated in a horizontal working plane (firing line) on board a pipelay vessel. As the vessel moves forward, the pipe gradually exits the firing line, curving downward through the water until it reaches the touchdown point on the seabed. As more pipe is paid out – under its own weight it assumes the “S”‑shaped curve.

In most parts of the world where oil and gas production takes place, there are many existing pipelines and cables on the seabed that must be crossed when installing a new pipeline. To prevent any damage to these existing pipelines and cables, crossing preparations must be performed before a new pipeline is installed.

Protection is provided by mattresses, consisting of concrete blocks connected by steel or synthetic material. The concrete blocks are covered with special pads to prevent the pipeline from being damaged. Since the crossing protrudes above the level of the seabed, it is covered either by rocks (rock dumping) or by additional mattresses for protection.

We provide the know-how and a network of more than 10 qualified service locations worldwide and offer technical assistance around the clock. We want to support our customers in optimizing their results on a daily base. Therefore, individual customer service after delivery is of high importance to Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine. Our customized solutions for Maintenance Contracts provide value for money in the short and long-term and support the respective customer with a low-risk, forward-looking support solution at a fixed annual cost.
